CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Mathis public water system's boil order has been lifted, according to a press release from the city on Wednesday, July 24. The news comes exactly one week after the city's initial notice was issued, and just days after that order's lift was rescinded and a second boil order was issued only hours later.
The press release states that the city has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system, and that water used for drinking and human consumption is now safe.
Mathis officials reportedly provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of Wednesday.
Mayor Ciri Villarreal apologized to Mathis residents over the weekend after receiving notice that a water boil order had been reissued following multiple days under the initial notice.
That order was initially lifted on Sunday afternoon, but Villarreal informed residents that it had been reinstated by Sunday evening due to low residual chlorine in a sample taken by TCEQ.
Officials first posted an advisory to the city's Facebook page last Wednesday, stating the water boil was issued because lower-than-normal disinfectant levels were detected in the water, and that lab samples were being tested.
