CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Mayor Paulette Guajardo filed for re-election at the City Secretary's Office on Wednesday morning for a possible third term in office.
She had previously served on the city council for two terms until her run for mayor in 2020.
This time around, some residents wondered why the mayor hadn't filed to run for office earlier since the filing date began on July 22.
3NEWS asked her why she waited as Councilman Michael Hunter and small business owner Joshua Fraedrick had already filed.
"My job as its been for the last four years is a fulltime job, so, I've been very, very busy," Guajardo said. "We have had a lot of different initiatives that we're working on and so I didn't wait for any purposeful reason. I've just been very busy here at City Hall working."
Former councilmember Ben Molina is now officially on the ballot as well hoping to win his District 2 spot back from Sylvia Campos.
Remember, those who are interested in running in the Nov. 5 election have until Aug. 19 to file.
