BRACKETTVILLE, Texas — A beloved science teacher took students on magical bus adventure!
No, we're not talking about Ms. Frizzle!
Local science teacher, Coreen Flores, from St. James Episcopal School went above and beyond taking 36 middle schoolers on a field trip to Brackettville, Texas for a front row seat at Monday's total solar eclipse.
"We ask that you give us safe travels, quick travels and you clear the clouds."
The morning started with a prayer from St. James headmaster Galen Holfstad, as she sent off a group of 36 middle school students to go view the 2024 great American eclipse four hours away.
The trip would not have been possible without Flores.
"I was like okay I really need to go see this eclipse, but I want to share it with my kids, so what can we do," she said.
Why have your nose in a book when you can have your eyes in the sky?
"This is the best science lab," Flores said. "This is it right here being out in nature actually seeing it happen, that's better than what you can do in a classroom."
The science teacher told 3NEWS the charter bus was donated by one the student's grandparents and made the caravan possible from Corpus Christi to the path of totality, an experience the teens will be talking about for years to come.
"Its a good memory to look back on, like the next eclipse in the future just remembering we were all together during the first one," student Jazzy Briseno said.
Flores explained how tightknit these classmates are after going to school together for years.
"The next time this ever happens when we are 34 or 33 maybe we can meet up and see it together," student Elizabeth Gilley said.
Until then the middle schoolers lived in the present and counted down until 1:28 p.m. when the sky around them would go dark and they would witness the total eclipse.
A moment they will surely not forget anytime soon.
