CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — More than a dozen Mississippi Kites have called the Coastal Bend home after being displaced by Hurricane Beryl back in July, but today they were ready for release!
The milestone is something Texas State Aquarium Wildlife Care Coordinator Giovanna Pena said she was thrilled see.
"It's a big part of our jobs and we enjoy it so thoroughly," Pena said. "It was great to have the Texas Sealife Center here for us to release all our birds together, as well as the HawkWatch people. They work so hard doing the count every single day and it's just a joy to have been a part of this."
There are still a few more of those Mississippi Kites being rehabilitated by their team, but for now, the community is welcome to grab binoculars and head out to Hazel Bazemore Park to try to get eyes on a few of those who were released.
