New student space opens up at Texas A&M University Kingsville

Javelinas can now head to the third floor of the Jernigan Library to wind down from or prep for their classes in the space designed just for them.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It was all smiles for students on campus at Texas A&M University- Kingsville on Wednesday! School leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting unveiling a brand new space for students to spend their free time.

Javelinas can now head to the third floor of the Jernigan Library to wind down from or prep for their classes in the 23,000 square feet of space designed just for them.

It's something President Dr. Robert Vela said students have been requesting for a while.

"This is a grand space that I think all students can benefit from in their ability to learn and study," Vela said. "But more importantly, to congregate and have what I call their own 'living room' to be able to relax and have fun."

Student Body said the space will be helpful for those who live further away from campus.

"A lot of our students commute to campus, so I think this is going be a good place for students to hangout, catch a na, and study before going back to their class."

Davis said that while he's in his current position representing students, he aims to help create as many spaces as possible for present and future classmates to enjoy.
