CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Olive Garden is just one of several new chain restaurant options coming to Portland soon as the city's economic growth continues its boom. The frame of the new building is already going up at Highway 181 and Olympic Drive.
It will be joined by Mr. Gatti's, Chipotle, Five Guys, and a Buffalo Wild Wings Go!, which also are planned to spring up as Hwy. 181 construction winds down, city officials tell 3NEWS.
A freestanding James Avery Artisan Jewelry at 3048 US Hwy 181 Ste. B is also is scheduled to open Saturday. City officials said the company has not told them whether the location inside the H-E-B Plus will close or if this will be a second location.
Residents curious about construction progress in the area can consult the city's interactive construction map here.
"We're always looking at ways to increase communication with our residents. With all the development in our area, we saw a need from residents asking what was being built, where?" said Sarah Munoz, Director of Development Services in Portland.
The interactive map has about 50 projects listed for the city of Portland.
Munoz said it's also a good tool for companies who have their sights set on the city.
"We have categories such as under construction, the type of structure, if a building permit has been issued. We have an amazing GIS team at the city of Portland that keeps up with this.
It not only shows commercial businesses but school projects, and residential subdivisions under construction.
A brief description of the project is also included.
Other projects you can see going up around town include The Texan gas station at Highway 181 and Buddy Ganem Drive and a 7-Eleven gas station across the street.
