CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The city of Portland announced last week that all residential and commercial water meters within city limits are expected to be replaced by Spring 2025.

Current water meters installed in Portland homes and businesses were put there more than 10 years ago and have reportedly exceeded their usage life. The city says that older meters can become less accurate over time, potentially leading to underbilling.

That means that Portland residents could notice a change in their water bills due to improved accuracy of the new meter.

The new meters include state-of-the-art digital technology that will help customers understand their water usage through a digital portal. Users will be able to view their water usage, receive tips on how to conserve water and even be notification of potential leaks.

Residents and businesses can expect to receive mailed notices about this project to keep them informed on the installation process, including how to use the online portal.

The installation process-- which is free-- will briefly interrupt service while the meter is being replaced but should last less than 30 minutes.
