School of Science and Technology student project helps children with cancer

The students have been making headbands that children with cancer can wear since wigs can be itchy and uncomfortable.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students in the School of Science and Technology's second grade Gifted and Talented program have been creating beautiful headbands for children with cancer as part of their community project.

With help from childhood cancer foundation, Brooke's Blossoming Hope, the students have been working together to create headbands to give to children with cancer to wear, something a little less itchy than a wig may be.

"We actually have this story that I share with the kids today and it's the Blossom and Brooke story and it kind of is just a little message of positivity, but it also dives a little deeply into what it's like to be in the hospital; and why you can't have fresh flowers in the hospital if you don't have a good immune system and just whatever we can do to continue to help kids to have compassion," Brooke's Blossoming Hope Executive Director Jessica Hester said.

The students learned the importance of caring and the little things they can do to put a smile on someone else's face, further proving you can make a difference at any age.
