CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Insurance will hold a public hearing on a proposed 10 percent rate increase Sept. 27 and State Rep Todd Hunter told 3NEWS he wants the public to show up in strength.
The public meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Embassy Suites here in town.
Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is asking the Texas Department of Insurance to approve the hike saying it's simply an inflation adjustment to the five percent increase that has been turned down multiple times in the past several years.
Hunter said it's a call to action for the Coastal Bend.
"So the important thing is the law has changed," he said. "TWIA's making a recommendation but the commissioner of insurance has to say yes or no. She's coming to Corpus Christi to hear from the Coastal Bend and we want to tell her no."
