CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Longtime member of the Corpus Christi Fire Department, Randy Paige, was honored for his service by City leaders on Tuesday as he announced his retirement.
The assistant fire chief and fire marshal will be retiring from the fire department in January after 36 years of serving the Coastal Bend community.
During Tuesday's city council meeting, the City presented Paige with an honorary fire helmet to commemorate his decades of service.
"I'm retiring from the fire service, but I've got a couple of grand kids that will keep me busy," he told leaders and community members at the meeting. "And since I have the podium, we still have some work to do with suicide awareness and that will be something that we continue after we leave the fire service."
Paige and his family pledge to continue their mission in honor of their son, Colten, who tragically died in 2015.
The family honoring Colten with their annual suicide awareness walk and the Colten Andrew Paige Memorial Scholarship Fund.
