CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An Odem man is dead after a fatal crash last Wednesday on US 77, according to DPS Troopers.
Authorities said speed played a factor in the crash when 80-year-old Larry Wilkerson hit the back of a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old that was ahead of him in the outside lane.
Wilkerson, traveling southbound on the highway, just about 2 miles north of Odem, failed to control his speed and drove onto the inside shoulder. The other vehicle came to a stop on the outside shoulder.
The 80-year-old man died from major injuries he sustained in the crash. He was pronounced dead by Judge Danny Garza and the crash remains under investigation by Troopers from the Sinton Highway Patrol Office.
