Corpus Christi game room raided for second time in two years

Detectives found more than $9,000 in cash and multiple gambling instruments after a months-long investigation culminated in a search warrant and raid.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division say took down another illegal gambling operation Wednesday afternoon-- this time at the Midway Club game room, located on the 4600 block of Kostoryz Road.

Police said that even though the business possesses a valid Nueces County Game Room Permit, that does not allow the business to violate the Texas Gambling Statute by paying out cash prizes.

The raid seized multiple illegal gambling devices and over $9,000 in cash.

Authorities said the latest raid is a result of their continued effort to eliminate illegal gambling within the Corpus Christi city limits.

Graciela Guzman, age 64, was arrested and charged with gambling promotion, keeping a gambling place, possession of a gambling device, and engaging in organized criminal activity. Police said he was the only employee at the time of the raid.

Corpus Christi police had previously raided the same location on Sept. 14, 2022. That raid resulted in the arrest of one woman for similar charges, and the seizure of over $61,000 in cash.

This investigation will continue, and authorities said that additional charges and arrests are possible.
