CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The South Texas Family Planning Clinic is unveiling new mobile health unit that will help bring top-tier medical services to those who have a hard time getting around.
The health care nonprofit has been serving the community for a collective 52 years and one local community leader-- Cynthia Gonzales said the newest mobile unit will offer the same level of care to those in need, all while eliminating barriers to transportation.
"It's such an exciting time for us to do great things in a great place-- the great city of Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend," said Gonzales. "You can't get to us? We are coming to you."
"It's your clinic and we want you to know that you are welcome here," she said.
Sarah Villareal will be managing the clinic at its pilot site. She said she's passionate about how the mobile unit will serve everyone, especially women who can't typically access medical care.
"Recently somebody told me that, you know, women-- they die with no help at all. Because they're always helping other people," Villareal said. "So, we want to make sure that people are just getting the help they need."
The clinic can help serve those in need of birth control, diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol treatment.
"We want you to feel like you are a part of our family, our organization, we want you to feel cared for, loved for, we want you coming back."
The South Texas Family Planning and Health Corporation held their grand unveiling at 4455 SPID on Friday morning. If you need to reach out to the organization, you can call 361-855-7333.
