CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We had some local representation at the Olympics!
Texas A&M Kingsville sprinter Shaun Gill competed in the preliminary round of the men's 100m race representing Belize.
The sprinter finished in 6th place and although he did not advance to the next round, this has been an exciting journey for the 31-year-old.
Gill recently made a post on Facebook announcing his retirement from athletics.
We were able to catch up with the schools Assistant Track and Field Coach who applauded Gills' efforts.
"Watching him compete at this level is a great experience, he's been an integral part of our team for a number of years so it was exciting to see him at the highest level. The best competition in the world," Assistant Coach Zachary Hall said.
With local representation at the Olympics young athletes can now be inspired to follow in his footsteps.
