CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — STEM was the star of the show at Texas A&M University- Kingsville where students and faculty kicked off the Engineering Design Expo, Thursday.
Freshmen Javelinas were there to showcase all of their hard work through the presentation of their final class projects.
Around 700 middle and high school students were in attendance, eager to learn more about engineering through presentations and plenty of hands-on activities.
President & CEO of the Buccaneer Commission Johnny Philipello told 3NEWS engineering is a vital component to the growth and success of industry, which is why he hopes to generate lots of interest in the subject.
To his delight, that was in no short supply.
"The energy and excitement the kids are having learning about all the different types of engineering is pretty amazing to see," Philipello said.
Masters student Joaquin Haces-Garcia was thrilled to be a part of a future engineer's first steps there at the event.
"A lot of these projects are able to change people's lives, change the way they view the perspective of the world in general," he shared. "It's what inspired me to be an engineer and I hope I can do that for someone here, today."
