CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Valero hosted its yearly back-to-school shopping spree with Communities in Schools of the Coastal Bend helping 56 local students get ready for the new school year.
The students received a JCPenny gift card to shop for new clothes and shoes with help from Valero volunteers.
"We've got some elementary school students here, middle school students and high school students here, that will all get to go shopping," Valero spokesperson Darcy Schroeder said. "The amount varies with their age because we know for the smaller kids it doesn't cost as much. Shoes for smaller kids costs a lot less than shoes for the older kids, so we want to make sure all of the kids are able to get the clothes and the shoes they really like and need."
Valero donated $15,000 to make the event possible for kids part of the nation's largest dropout prevention organization, Communities in Schools.
