CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Veterans Pow Wow will take place in Corpus Christi on September 21 at the American Bank Center. The event aims to raise funds for local veterans, and it is the first Powwow in our area in more that 25 years.
Organizers said that they are bringing it back to honor those who served -- both native and non-native folk alike -- as service members hold a place of honor amongst tribal communities.
Like the pow wows that used to take place at the Memorial Coliseum, the event is a gathering of Native American people from different tribes who come together to dance, sing, and put their culture in the public eye for the purpose of cultural exchange.
It will feature cultural honor songs and dances which focus on veterans.
Anthony Falcon, a Lipan Apache tribe member, Nueces County Veterans Services Director JJ De La Cerda, and Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Director of Veterans Affairs Daniel Villarreal, all joined us on First Edition to talk about the pow wow.
