CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One week ago, Betty Jo Perez witnessed a child being hit by a vehicle. The driver then sped away, in what would become a dangerous hit-and-run incident, per Constable Jimmy Rivera and Pct. 3 in Nueces County.
But it's what Perez did next that might shock you.
The Constable's Office said that she followed the driver to an address in Bishop, where she reported their location, giving law enforcement the chance to contact the driver and take appropriate action. Without thought for her own safety.
On Monday, the Constable’s Office presented Perez with a letter of commendation at the Bishop ISD school board meeting.
Constable Jimmy Rivera and Pct. 3 deputies expressed their gratitude to Perez in a social media post Tuesday.
Authorities said they want to encourage the community to always contact a local law enforcement agency if they are witnessing a criminal offense or an unsafe situation. They say you can choose to remain anonymous when reporting.
