CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A decades-long tradition is helping Christmas is coming a bit early for 150 Corpus Christi kids.
For more than 30 years, Flint Hills Resources and the YMCA have gifted new shoes to students in need.
And for the adults involved, it's a chance to pay forward for those whose shoes they've once walked in themselves.
“Seeing the kids getting their new pair of shoes, getting their hoodie, getting their toy from Santa -- it kind of pulls some strings in my heart a little bit because I come -- I'm not very privileged -- and growing up and now being able to help and be a blessing to those kids is a blessing for myself," said YMCA Sports and Outreach Director Lirone Speaks.
This year, 100 students from TG Allen Elementary, and 50 from Oak Park Elementary, will receive clothes and shoes from the outing.
