CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The city of Corpus Christi and Reliant are announcing the grand opening of Reliant's 'Beat the Heat centers.'
For 15 years, these centers have allowed residents to escape the South Texas heat by going to one of four community centers that are now open to cool off, and most importantly, to get hydrated.
Reliant Sr. Director of Community Relations Leanne Schneider shared a few words on how the opening of the centers provides a much-needed resource for our community.
"It's super important for us as a company to give back to the communities in a very meaningful way,” she said. “Where we live and where we work and the Coastal Bend area is one of those very important communities for us, and then again, we want people to be safe, we want people to be cool and we want people to have the assistance they need when they need it."
In addition, Reliant is also offering 100 artic air coolers and 400 box fans that will be distributed over the coming weeks.
Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo encouraged people who need it to take advantage of the program.
"It is going to get even hotter going into the summer so take advantage it's free and is accessible to everyone, so join us at one of the four locations," she said.
Those 2024 locations are the Ethel Eyerly Senior Center in Flour Bluff and the Oveal Williams, Lindale and Greenwood senior centers in Corpus Christi proper.
