Community supports Bishop family after death of 13-year-old boy

A vigil was held at Amistad Veterans Memorial Park, which is where their child used to play basketball.

BISHOP, Texas — A vigil was held in Bishop on Sunday as a family grieves the loss of their 13-year-old child.

Feliciano Rosales was shot and killed off Gloria Street in Corpus Christi last month.

The event was held at Amistad Veterans Memorial Park. The family said they picked that spot since Feliciano used to play basketball there.

"I don't know if I will ever be able to accept what has really happened with us," Sara Ann Luera said, Feliciano's mom.

Sara Ann Luera said it means a lot to have the Bishop community's support as her family grieves. She said she is still in shock from what happened.

"This is the first time I'm here at the park since this happened to my son, and again, I just thank everybody for their support," Sara Ann Luera said.

Feliciano's older brother Gregorio Luera said they used to play basketball together on the park's court. Balloons were released there in Feliciano's honor on Sunday. He said it was hard to be back there.

"It makes me feel, like, a relief that I could be here and accept it and then I could try to move forward from it, and, but at the same time, it's like pressurizing, choking," Gregorio Luera said.

Gregorio Luera said it is comforting knowing he is supporting his family. He added that he wants to focus on the positive and finish the science projects he started with his younger brother.

"I just appreciate everybody coming that was going to come make it and help me set the balloons out," Gregorio Luera said. "They're red and white, cause red was his favorite color. So, I thought it'd be appropriate."

Sara Ann Luera said there are no words to describe how she feels, but explained how she wants everyone to remember her son.

"Down to earth and just real," Sara Ann Luera said.

Sara Ann Luera said law enforcement are keeping her family updated about what happened to her son. She asked anyone with more information to please share it so that the family can have closure.
