CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Chris Coulter owns Chris's Marine over in Aransas Pass, and on a normal day his customers enjoy their boats on our bays and channels, but on Wednesday, the water came right up on his storefront.
"Haynie Owners Tournament is this weekend and we got close to 4,000 people supposed to be here and I don't know what the weather is going to allow us to do," he said.
When heavy rainfall occurs, businesses in the area always prepare for the worst, which is why Coulter's only request is that the City make improvements to the water pump system.
"You know I've been here close to 30 years and and it's always a problem right here in this main part of town," he said. "People drive like maniacs up and down the highway and it actually pushes water into our showroom and shop."
The rain even caused several vehicles to hydroplane and run off the road.
Stephanie Diaz with the Aransas Pass Police Department said several major roadways were closed off due to high flood water.
"We have closed off a lot of major roadways and several impassable areas in town and residential areas," Diaz said. "A lot of them became impassable at some point, but really quickly the water is draining out and we're able to get back through them."
For business owners like Coulter, a heavy rain event like this always means trouble for the city.
"You know, we're supposed to get more rain, it ain't gonna be good," he said.
