CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Municipal Court hosted their inaugural Bike Rodeo Event to promote bike safety.
It is the start of the summer and bike safety is crucial for young kids as it helps prevent accidents and injuries.
The event taught children how wear their helmets correctly, use hand signals, and understand traffic rules that will protect them on the road.
Jackie Chapa, a presiding judge at the corpus Christi Municipal Court shared a few words about how the inspiration for this event came to be.
"It's something we've been talking about to promote, to get out to the community to promote safety," said Chapa. "t's really about going out there and being safe in our community. We want all our citizens to be safe whether they are riding bikes and driving cars- and our teenagers."
Chapa also explained how drivers should yield to bikers and share the road.
The Corpus Christi Municipal Court plans on having more demonstrations and giving presentations to spread awareness when it comes to riding safely in the Coastal Bend.
