City reminds residents firework discharge is prohibited within city limits, asking for mindfulness for veterans

You could face up to a $2000 fine for each opened package of fireworks if caught.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department and the Corpus Christi Police Department would like to remind the community that discharging fireworks within the city limits, including the beach area, is prohibited. Violators may face up to a $2000 fine for each opened package of fireworks. If you witness any illegal fireworks being discharged, please call the designated number, 361-886-COPS.

It's important to note that 911 should not be used for firework-related complaints.

Below are some safety tips to follow if using fireworks outside city limits:

  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
  • Older children should use them only under adult supervision.
  • Never light them indoors.
  • Use them away from people, houses, and flammable material.
  • Only light one firework at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting.
  • Do not ignite devices in a container.
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Soak unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding.
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to extinguish fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire.

In addition to this reminder to residents, the city is also asking the community to remember other groups over the weekend.

New Year's Eve celebrations are just around the corner, and we would like to remind you that Combat PTSD is real. Please be considerate of our veterans.

The city of Corpus Christi took to social media earlier this week asking the Coastal Bend community to keep veterans in mind during the celebrations, saying "Combat PTSD is real," along with a moving video message.

The city also asks you residents to remember to prioritize the safety and well-being of their pets this weekend. Keep pets indoors, make sure their microchip is up-to-date, and provide them a cozy space with plenty of toys if they feel like they need to hide when the fireworks begin.

As we welcome the New Year, let's remember to prioritize the safety and well-being of our furry friends. Keep your pets...
