Edroy grass fire 95 percent contained Saturday night

Residents were allowed to go back into their homes.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County Emergency Services Department No. 1 Fire Chief Michael Clack said so far, about 50 acres have been lost to a large grass fire near Edroy. 

His is one of the departments helping to get the fire under control. 

Two fires were reported in San Patricio county early Saturday evening: one in Sinton, and one near Edroy. 

San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera said the one in Sinton is near County Road 2023 and is under control. 

The San Patricio County Emergency Management Facebook page stated later Saturday night that the fire near Edroy was 95 percent contained after being handled by multiple agencies during the early evening. 

Clack said precautionary evacuations were ordered, but that no houses had been lost.

However, residents in the area said homes have received smoke damage.

A large grass fire in the Edroy area has prompted evacuations of homes in the general area around the fire. Our office is working with the American Red Cross to address the needs of those displaced.

Rivera said that fire is large. Beeville Fire Department is one of the agencies helping. Firefighters posted a video to their Facebook page.

Beeville along with Tynan Fire Department is on scene of a large grass fire that was threatening the town of Edroy in San Patricio County.
