CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A former corrections officer and Three Rivers resident faced a federal courtroom Monday on charges alleging he accepted cash as payment to smuggle contraband into a prison.
Justin Gonzalez, 26, was an officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Three Rivers before he was charged with two counts of bribery of a public official, according to information released by the U.S. Attorney of the Texas' Southern District earlier this week. The indictment was returned Apr. 4 and unsealed upon his arrest Apr. 8.
If convicted, Gonzalez faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
