CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas DPS is asking residents to remember the phrase, "if you see something, say something" and they want you to use the the iWatchTexas app to do it.
The free app is for Texans to report non-emergencies or suspicious behavior that could be an indicator of serious crimes, that they may happen to witness.
DPS will take your submission, compile and cross reference it with others made at the state and the federal level.
Sergeant Rob Mallory said when making one of these reports it's about trusting your intuition.
"We ask people to kind of rely on their gut instinct and if they think there's an issue there then they can go ahead and submit that report anonymously through it for follow up investigation," Mallory said. "There have been times where it's proven that we've been able to make these connections and prevent things like a school shooting or a terrorist attack from happening".
Mallory stressed that iWatchTexas is not for emergencies. For those, you will still need to dial 9-1-1.
For more information on the app you can visit iWatchTexas.org.
There, you will find how-to videos and tips for effective reporting.
