CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's out with the old and in with the new in Sinton as the city celebrated the grand re-opening of one of Sinton’s parks and splash pad.
Speck Eakin Park has been in the community for over 50 years and, now the with the big renovation, it includes a new safety feature for the kids: rubber playground surfacing.
The new addition helps to avoid playground injuries that result from trips, slips and falls on hard or slick surfaces.
City manager John Hobson is excited about the changes.
"The playground is the big renovation,” he said. “We've gotten rid of old equipment that was old and rusted and falling apart. This park is walkable, kids can ride their bikes, we got the skate park, got the basketball court, got the splash pad behind the new playground."
He also explained how getting funding for the park was a difficult process, because Sinton is a small city and said the city plans to continue to do more minor upgrades on the park to make sure it is up to standards.
