CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The U.S. Postal Service's 'Protect the Sea Turtles' Forever stamps are now available and you may recognize one particular turtle from our own Texas State Aquarium!
Daisy, a Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle who calls the Aquarium home, is featured on the stamps that aim to bring attention to sea turtle conservation efforts nationwide.
The stamp shares Daisy's backstory -- how she first arrived at the Texas State Aquarium in 1990, due to vision problems -- helping give people a reason to find a way to help these species.
Director of Stamp Services Lisa Bobb-Semple shared a few words on how the new stamps will help protect sea turtles.
"This is such a great opportunity for consumers to become aware about these sea turtles and to see what they can do to help protect these endangered species," Bobb-Semple said.
Six new stamps are aimed at raising awareness for the Kemp's ridley, leatherback, olive ridley, green sea turtle, loggerhead, and hawksbill turtles.
Jesse Gilbert, President and CEO at the Texas State Aquarium, also shared a few words about the dedication ceremony.
"We are pleased to host this event and certainly people are passionate about sea turtle conservation and passionate about stamps so this was a great event, we are thrilled," Gilbert said.
By purchasing one of the stamps you're taking action to help keep our ocean thriving for generations to come.
