CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Robstown police rearrested Cruz Favaela III on Monday for the stabbing death of 42-year-old Benjamin Gonzalez in November 2023.
The 40-year-old is in jail on a $1 million bond.
Favaela was originally arrested the night of the stabbing after Gonzalez named him as the person who stabbed him.
However, after not going to trial for over 180 days he was eligible for release.
A warrant was reinstated and he was taken into custody on Monday.
3NEWS spoke with detective Michael Hernandez about the development.
"I actually talked to the family today and let them know, this individual is in custody, they were very thankful," he said. "For me, it's not over, you know once I get that conviction, or we get that conviction I will have my rest."
The re-arrest happening just two days before the one year anniversary of Gonzalez's murder.
