CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We normally see clean-ups along the beach-- on land-- but one effort is taking place out on the water.
Volunteers gathered on Padre Island to help clean up trash-- blown into the canals-- and into the water.
Clean up on the water was done with kayaks-- boats-- and paddleboards to help clean up trash blown into the canal from the wind.
Save our Shores Junk Removal teamed up with three other organizations to help clean the canals on the island.
Nate Epling and Daniel Cornelius spoke with us about what it's like working to clean up trash from local canals.
"There are 4 of us (organizations) there's Save our Shores Junk Removal, Vita Can of Rum, Friends of Padre, and Coastal Bend Bays and Nest."
"It certainly makes it look much better. we have done this once before and been in the canals and cleaned up the lot and we wait out there by the natural grasses and everything and pick up that trash. it certainly makes things look better."
They encourage everyone to clean up trash safely debris and trash can blow near roadways-- thanks to the wind.
Save our shores junk removal is planning another clean-up event for mid-October.
